National Science Week (NSW) is an annual event aiming to exhibit and communicate awareness in science. It is an initiative of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), a countrywide celebration of science involving various stakeholders and/or role players conducting science-based activities during the week. 

The NSW 2019 for Free State province was jointly hosted by the Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT) and The University of Free State (UFS) at both university's campus.

The theme for NSW 2019 is “Facing the harsh realities of climate change“.

The major activities are:

  • Climate Change Boot Camp for young learners in the Province
  • Panel Discussion: Embracing IoT in Facing the Harsh Realities of Climate Change
  • Climate Science Fair
  • Workshop on Assessment of climate change vulnerability and adaptation by Women in informal Settlements
  • A demonstration of the Adaptive Environmental Management System for Lejweleputswa District
